about

Picture this: the year is 2013, it's January. We go onstage at a show roughly 120 miles from home. After a drive, and one hour of sleep it's now 7am and we're up to record what would become our first 'album' in one solid day. The album is called "Charger" and it's comprised of 10 'jams' that were basically made up on the spot and born out of an intense sleep deficit. Our band, at the time, was named "Haggard Cat Bothday Present"

Cut to five years later: We have been sitting on a follow-up to "Charger" (an album named "Challenger") for just over a year, unsure of what to do with it we pay a visit to Texas and have a little time to think. While we're there we embrace the idea that the music we create in the band (now named "HCBP") should always exist to bring joy to the both of us, regardless of any outside influence; this is solely for us. With this firmly in mind, we look back at the album "Charger" as a body of work that sparked this movement with fresh eyes. We decide to return to the beautiful studio we recorded "Challenger" (the Nave in Leeds with Matt Peel) to track an entirely live 5 year anniversary version of "Charger" taking our friends Dave Lankester, Gary Gent and Joe Crouch along with us to film the session.

One month passes, we sign to a label for a worldwide release of Challenger (and go on to release our current album Common Sense Holiday). Our live album pet-project is side-lined for the foreseeable. In the following two years a lot changes.

Fast forward to present day. We're just over mid-way through the year 2020, our country's leader is a particularly flummoxed sentient joint of ham hock, everyone's been indoors for the best part of five months and live music has seemingly been deleted. We think it's time; this is Charger Live, please enjoy.
